Some of you know that we are looking for a new house. We love where we live now, the house is great. A big beautiful yard and you can even see the water and the Olympic mountains from certain locations. BUT....when Edward is gone, we are just too far away from our family and it gets a bit lonely. So, we have been looking high and low for the house that will be "just right" for our little family. I forgot how exhausting and draining it can be to do this. Looking at each house with the hopes that it is "the one" (sort of like dating!). Knowing that if you settle for less, you will regret it (sort of like dating!). But I know that I found the "right one" in my darling husband and I know we will find the "right one" in a home.
Now, I L-O-V-E old houses. I love the charm, the character, the creaks, nooks, and history. I don't care for the "cookie cutter" house. The pre-fab look. The generic look. I love the mouldings, plaster walls, all that. You would think it would be easy to find a house like that here with so many historic towns. But NOOOOO. If the house isn't run down, then it has been ruined by being "updated".
We went to look at a house yesterday. A gorgeous 1920's farmhouse. Big fat pillared porch. Lots of windows. I was crushed when I walked in. The original wood flooring was gone and it was partially carpeted. Not just covered, but gone. The plaster walls had been sheet rocked. All the original windows, gone. I was so disappointed. What I find laughable though is that the current owner was thrilled that all the "creepy, old stuff" was gone...when that was exactly what I was looking for. So, we continue our search. The house is waiting for us somewhere....I hope we find it soon.
We are going to look at one today that has promise. I have no idea about the inside since there were not any photos. Hopefully it won't be ruined like the one we saw yesterday. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Yesterday I told Dominic to keep his fingers crossed, and he did, for about 10 minutes until we told him he didn't "really" have to keep them crossed!
